<li>Willamette sits between the Salem Hospital and the Oregon State Capitol and is a short walk from more than 150 executive, legislative, and judicial agencies and offices — in effect an extra set of classrooms that provide innumerable opportunities and internships for enriched student learning.</li>
<li>Willamette’s 305-acre forest at Zena is an outdoor laboratory where professors and students from multiple disciplines tie the local landscape to academic exploration.</li>
<li>In the past 13 years, Willamette students and young alumni earned numerous national awards, including 25 Fulbrights, 13 National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships, 13 Gilman International Scholarships, four Goldwater Scholarships, three Truman Scholarships, and two Udall Scholarships.</li>
<li>Willamette’s notable alumni include our first graduate, Emily York 1859; Dale Mortensen ’61, a 2010 Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences; U.S. Olympic runner Nick Symmonds ’06; Mark Hatfield ’43, former U.S. senator and Oregon governor; Lisa Murkowski JD ’85, U.S. senator for Alaska; Jay Inslee JD ’76, Washington governor; Liz Heaston ‘99, the first female to score in a college football game; and Jim Cuno ’73, past president and CEO of The J.
