New College of Florida students do research on sharks at Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota

Independent Study Projects (ISPs) are integral to a New College education. Students choose a topic in consultation with a faculty member who agrees to become the ISP sponsor, and the project typically includes some element of independent or group work – exploratory research, creative work, or reflection. Recent topics have included studying the effects of climate change on lizards in Peru, studying coral reefs in Panama, a class in day trading, and Mindfulness Meditation.
