First-generation Students Get a Head Start at Whitman College

The challenges facing first-generation college students are different from that of their peers and often contribute to lower graduation rates. In light of this knowledge, Whitman has made it a priority to assist first-generation and working-class students in their transition to college. This past July, the college flew 32 incoming first-generation/working-class students to campus for an orientation program to get students familiar with the campus, faculty and staff members and the resources available to them.
