A Statement on Marlboro College, July 2019

The Colleges That Change Lives Board of Directors has been reading the announcements regarding the recent merger discussions between University of Bridgeport and Marlboro College. Through conversations we understand that the discussions have reached the public phase, but there are many fine details to be finalized—this is the next phase of the conversation between these two institutions.

As small, liberal arts colleges continue to find sustainable methods in which to grow, thrive, and educate students, we will continue to monitor the details of the merger and communicate with the leadership at Marlboro to understand what this union means for the institution. Once we have a full picture of the merger and how it will impact Marlboro, the Board will have more in-depth conversations about what this means for Marlboro’s membership. Marlboro College remains a proud member of CTCL.

These are challenging times in higher education, especially for small liberal arts colleges. The CTCL Board and leaders of our 45-member institutions firmly believe in the value of the transformative education offered at CTCL-member schools—one that develops graduates who will take us into the future with thoughtful, careful leadership.

Please contact us if you have more questions. The Board offers our support to the entire Marlboro community during this time of transition and wishes them great success in achieving a smooth transition.
